Michael Brown

Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Welcome. I’m Michael, a registered counsellor and psychotherapist (MSc, MBACP) based in Glasgow, offering person-centred, mindfulness-based therapy online and in person.

My approach is grounded in presence, curiosity, and nervous system awareness. I work gently and collaboratively, paying attention to what’s spoken, what’s felt in the body, and what’s unfolding moment by moment. Together, we create space for what has been held too tightly—or not held at all—to be met with compassion and without pressure.

“We take care of the future best by taking care of the present now."
Jon Kabat-Zinn

People I work with

  • Anxiety, depression, low mood or emotional overwhelm

  • Stress, burnout, or difficulty switching off

  • ADHD, dyslexia, or late-diagnosed neurodivergence

  • Chronic illness, pain, or fatigue (e.g. fibromyalgia)

  • LGBTQ+ identity, gender, or belonging

  • Addiction and coping struggles

  • Grief and loss—recent or long-held

  • OCD and compulsive behaviours

  • Relationship and attachment issues

  • Low self-esteem, shame, or inner criticism

  • Codependency and boundary difficulties

  • Life transitions and identity shifts

  • Spirituality, meaning, or existential questioning

  • Sexual behaviours, intimacy, or body image

  • Trauma—named or unnamed

The people I work with often arrive carrying a mix of things—grief, burnout, identity questions, or a kind of overwhelm that’s hard to name. Some feel stuck in patterns they want to shift, anxious or unsettled, and looking for ways to ground themselves and feel more in control. I support those living with emotional complexity, internal conflict, and the challenges of difference—whether shaped by neurodivergence, chronic health conditions, recovery, or the ongoing process of exploring identity and belonging. I often work with LGBTQ+ clients, though my practice is open to anyone drawn to this way of working. Many come during times of transition or depletion, looking for space to reflect, regulate, and reconnect.

What I offer

My approach is relational, body-aware, and grounded in presence. I offer a space where you can slow down, tune into your experience, and begin to make sense of what’s been overwhelming, stuck, or unclear.

Sometimes the work is quiet and reflective; other times, it’s more active or focused. Alongside open exploration, I offer simple, practical tools to support emotional resilience—like breathwork, grounding, gentle movement, and mindfulness-based exercises. These practices help reconnect with the body, settle the nervous system, and develop greater self-trust.

All of this is held within a person-centred framework, where you set the pace. Together, we pay attention to what’s unfolding—what needs care, what’s asking to be met—and allow space for things to shift in their own time.

What my clients say

"As someone who was relatively new to therapy, I was extremely impressed from the outset at Michael's thoughtful and engaged approach. Furthermore, I feel I have left his therapy sessions with a greater set of tools at my disposal for emotional resilience. Even though my time was relatively short, upon reflection, Michael has made a hugely positive contribution to my life and I am forever grateful for his patience, guidance and humanity."

"Michael’s consistently calm presence and reassuring, empathetic approach ensured that I had the mental space to explore the challenges that brought me there and allowed me to explore and dissect my personal experiences and challenges in what felt like a very safe, non-judgemental space."

"His warm and engaging manner made it easy to open up and talk about even the most painful of subjects. Thanks to Michael’s support and skilled handling of our conversations, I feel more mindful of my own feelings and the feelings of those around me, which has had a positive impact on my outlook and personal relationships."

“Don't turn away. Keep your gaze on the bandaged place. That's where the light enters you.”
